Members’ voting for additional property purchase: Next week, July 2nd
Over the course of several weeks, we prayed together and sought God's guidance in deciding to purchase an additional church property. Several people expressed their interest and opinions about the purchase. Because the church can have various opinions and thoughts, I said last week that when the church handles important matters, it is important not to gather people's opinions or thoughts to make decisions, but to be guided by where God's will is.
The Building Committee (President: Shepherd Kim Jong-yong, Members: Executive Operational Committee) continued to investigate potential additional properties and confirmed that the owner of 14 Elizabeth St have no intention of selling. The owner of 33 John St wants to sell for 1.7millions and has already asked us to make a decision by this week (end of June), as I said in my column two weeks ago. For reference, 33 John st has a land size of 1444 m2. (Currently, Sydney Crystal Church is about 2000 m2). So, this vote is to set 33 John St as the location for the additional property, with the possibility of purchase, and to hold a members vote next week to confirm God's guidance.
The purchase of additional property is the final decision of God's will through voting. And, at the request of the denomination, the purchase will proceed only when there is consent from 75% of the members participating in the vote.
We do not know what decision will be made regarding the purchase of the 33 John St property. However, we must believe in God's will for the decision and follow it with one heart. I will also believe that the decision is God's will and obey it.
This does not mean giving up on the purchase of additional property if the voting for the purchase of 33 John St is not successful. It is because we have already decided to purchase an additional property or buildings to prepare for the future for the next generation and because of the difficulties coming from the small church space. Also, even if we decide to purchase 33 John St, we will continue to seek God's guidance because the process is just beginning and we have to go through several stages. Please pray for one more week to know God's will for 33 John St through the members’ vote.
