We will be electing deacons (first week of December)
We mentioned earlier this year that we would elect additional deacons. So, we will be holding the vote to elect deacons before the end of this year, in the first week of December.
The qualifications and selection method for deacons is summarised as below: (please refer to the 18 August 2017 bulletin’s column for information on the election method. Note that there may be some changes in the qualification and election methods of deacons).
The qualifications for a deacon are those who meet the requirements in Acts 6:1-7 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13, believe in Jesus as their Saviour, have been baptised for at least 5 years, and are 35 years of age or above. Additionally, a deacon is someone who has been a member of this church for more than two years, is currently doing the ministry of a shepherd, has responsibilities in serving in church ministries and tithing, and completed the required life bible studies provided by the church (or will commit to a completion plan to complete them).
The number of deacons to be elected will be determined by the church’s Executive Management Committee. At the All Shepherd’s meeting, all persons meeting the qualifications will be voted on. Those that receive the most votes will be selected as nominees. The nominees will then be voted on by all registered church members (a nominee must receive at least two-thirds of the votes).
Those that are voted in by church members will be notified via the bulletin and they must then prepare documents for the deacon application. Documents to be prepared include a salvation testimony, a calling testimony (focusing on the grace received and commitments made while serving as a shepherd), and three letters of recommendation. First, from your wife (are you managing your family well?), second, from other shepherds within the church (are you a good collaborator?) and third, from your workplace or neighbours (are you an influential Christian in the world?)
Those elected as deacons will receive training for the position of deacon with Senior Pastor Song. Then, an ordination date will be set and the ordination ceremony will be held.
Please pray for one month starting this week so that the deacons that God wants will be elected so that the church can continue to be built up.
