There are a few sins God detests and one of them is idolatry. In the Old Testament, we can often see kingdoms being destroyed and people facing judgement because of this sin. Idolatry is a terrifying sin that ruins our hearts and breaks our relationships with God.
We may think idolatry is doing something big, but today’s passage teaches us that even ‘greed’ is idolatry. This means that not only is worshipping someone or something other than God is idolatry, trying to fulfill our greed and disregarding His will also is idolatry.
We, who are renewed in Christ must practice daily denying our greed and living for His will. When we live the way we want to live, we are living an idolatry life full of greed, leading us to God’s judgement.
Passage: Colossians 3:1-11
4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
