Last week, there was a funeral for church member Hwa-Seong Kim (husband of Hye-Ja Song). I think that one of the greatest sorrows in life is the sorrow of losing a parent. I think that the bereaved family would have received a lot of comfort from those who worked hard and comforted them by participating together.
At the farewell service, I shared an example of a train journey that I once shared in the bulletin column in the past.
I remember going down to the countryside by train with my family when I was young. There was a lot of luggage in the train and there were no seats, so I had to stand up, but I was so happy to be going somewhere on the train. The scenery outside the train window was also very good. The boiled eggs and peanuts sold on the train were irreplaceable. A bottle of cider with a boiled egg was the definition of happiness.
I think of our lives as travelling on trains. Various people travel by train with anticipation. The trains are full of joy, sorrow, anticipation, new meetings and partings. Just as the scenery that unfolds out of the train window is constantly different, our lives also have different situations. It would have been boring if all the scenery outside the train window was the same all the time.
As in our lives, even though the train runs smoothly, sometimes we have to go over a steep hill, which is difficult to overcome on our own, and sometimes we have to experience desperate situations like going through a dark tunnel. After these moments are over, these become happy memories that God has allowed for you.
There are various stations along the train route. Some people get off early at the station of failure, disease, or complaint before reaching the final destination, but new encounters give new vitality. Some people have hard times or complain that some sit in special seats, some in VIP seats, and some stand up all the way without any seats, but it does not matter if they are not in special seats. It does not matter if the seats are a little uncomfortable. Even if it is hard to stand up, I think that our Lord will be the conductor of the train and the final destination will be called the Heaven station.
