          • The Akany Centre in Madagascar.

Our church sent missionaries Jung Hyun-wook and Kang Hyun-ok to Madagascar, and they will be operating the Akany Centre. We are grateful to be able to introduce the beginning of this missionary work on the 46th anniversary of the church's founding. The Akany Centre will provide care for children in impoverished areas of the city in Madagascar who do not receive proper care, with plans for education, healthcare, and church activities. The missionaries, who were originally a doctor and a nurse and believed in Jesus through a house church, became house church Bible teachers and are now serving as missionaries. After completing three years of missionary work in Cambodia, they went to Madagascar. Currently, they are learning and assisting in local African missions as part of the local Mercy Ministries (a missionary organization similar to the Evangelism group).

Last month, they received a proposal from a retiring missionary. For ten years, they operated a centre (Akany Centre) for children in need in an area where the poor gather in Madagascar's city (a slum formed by people returning after being displaced with urban development, sustaining their livelihood by selling items found in garbage dumps). The government provided land, and a two-story building was constructed. Children in this impoverished area lack birth certificates, preventing them from attending formal schools. The Akany Centre aims to teach these children, provide medical care, offer food, and serve as a place of worship.

Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in Africa. The missionary suggested not only meeting the needs of the poor but also establishing house churches in Madagascar by training local young pastors, beyond just providing for the poor. This is because at the end of mission work, churches that continue to save souls and make disciples should be established.

I believe that the Akany Centre is a ministry that pleases God because it is a place where poor and vulnerable children can receive help and grow into workers of the Kingdom of God. I trust that they will become people who will change the future of the poor country, Madagascar.

To operate the Akany Centre, financial support is needed, and we are requesting cooperation from our house churches. We ask you to pray and support the ministry financially wherever God's need is felt, and we hope it will be carried out through the greatness of God. Also, please pray that the missionary couple operating the Akany Centre in Madagascar will not tire but handle the ministry with joy.

            Word of the week
Today is the Sunday marking the 46th anniversary of the church's founding. We thank God for establishing the church here and pray for His blessings on all those who have dedicated their hearts to the church.
