          • House churches that Transcend Time and Region
Our missionary team in Indonesia is currently participating in a House Church conference for Indonesian pastors. Today (Friday), we finished the conference for pastors and are now serving at the Central Java Regional Church Union Shepherds' Retreat. On Sunday, we will travel 8 hours by car to the Bogor area in West Java, where we will minister at Karawang Baptist Church for the Sunday service and then hold a 2-days, 1-night retreat for the regional church union shepherds.
In a country like Indonesia, where over 80% of the population is Muslim, we are deeply moved by the dedication of missionaries and local pastors, shepherds, and shepherds’ partners who are committed to soul-saving and making disciples through house churches.
Pastor Young-ki Choi once thought that house churches were just a transitional phenomenon, as early Christianity had few believers and lacked proper meeting places, so gatherings took place in homes. However, he later concluded that house churches are not just a transitional phenomenon but the type of church that the Lord had planned all along. This is because the church is meant to be God’s family community. If the church the Lord desired and the apostles tried to establish was a family community, it only makes sense that the place where the church gathers would be a home. Therefore, house churches, where believers meet in homes, must transcend time, region, and culture.
This is being proven worldwide. House church seminars and conferences for both laypeople and pastors are being held across the United States, Korea, Australia, Southeast Asia, Africa, Eurasia, and more. Local house churches are rapidly being established. House churches are the kind of community the Lord wanted.
Every time I visit a house church in the mission field, I am even more deeply moved by the dedication of the churches, shepherds, and shepherds’ partners, despite their difficult circumstances. Though they may not have financial abundance, they gather together to share meals, and in small, cramped spaces, they invite VIPs to house church meetings to win souls and fulfill their mission of making disciples.
Even in this land of Indonesia, where Muslim is dominant, house churches are spreading in various places, and the dedication of shepherds and shepherds’ partners continues. I am witnessing firsthand how the influence of house churches, the type of community the Lord desired, is spreading worldwide, transcending time and region.

            Word of the week
Shepherds Seung Woo Yoo and Dong Joo Lee were selected as candidates for Deacons during the All shepherds' meeting. A vote will be held among the church members on December 8th. If two-thirds of the participants approve, they will be officially appointed as Deacons.
