Serving the 51st Oceania Shepherds’ Conference (Thu, 23 Jan to Sat, 25 Jan).
The 51st Oceania Shepherds’ Conference will be held this week at KCC in Katoomba. The Shepherds’ Conference is the largest event held by shepherds and shepherd’s wives. About 200 people from various churches in each city in Oceania have registered for the shepherds’ conference.
Shepherds and shepherd’s wives in Oceania took annual leave and spent alot of money to register. To prepare for and serve the Oceania Conference, lay ministry teams of the Sydney Crystal Church have been dedicating themselves and working behind the scenes. Alot of finances also goes into serving.
What is expected through the Oceania Shepherds’ Conference is for restoration and revival to occur in churches across Oceania through the shepherds and shepherd’s wives. The goal is to restore the biblical New Testament church so that churches can gain strength.
There was something I felt while participating in the Sydney Council of Churches, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in the first week of this year. It appeared that churches in Sydney had been ageing more than expected. Most of the pastors who participated were retired or about to retire. When I thought about what would happen in 10 years, I felt a sense of crisis.
In times of crisis, we need to go back to basics. The house church movement is a non-denominational movement to save the church by returning to the Bible and focusing on the Lord's Great Commission. The goal is to restore the New Testament church of the Bible and allow the pastor-centred ministry to change to centre on lay ministry.
I am confident that if the shepherds and shepherd’s wives gain strength through the Oceania Shepherds’ Conference and return to their house church ministry, churches will receive great strength. So, rather than simply holding an event, we strive to bring the fire of the Holy Spirit into the hearts of shepherds and shepherd’s wives and provide an opportunity for each church to experience restoration and revival.
Word of the week
