Gratitude and Lessons from Cheongju Sarang Church
We sincerely thank you for joyfully serving Pastor Ahn Gook-Chul and the members of Cheongju Sarang Church by providing accommodations, transportation, meals, and snacks. Pastor Ahn repeatedly expressed his deep gratitude, saying he could genuinely feel the sincerity of your hospitality. Their visit was also a time for us to experience God's prepared grace.
For the past 20 years, Cheongju Sarang Church has ministered to broken families, addicts, and those who had lost hope, centring around house churches. Through years of service and love within the church and house churches, these individuals have been restored. Now, the church has become a model of a healthy church in Korea and actively supports newly planted churches. Hearing their testimonies of how wounded and broken souls were healed and formed a community that is more than just a family deeply moved us to tears.
The members of Cheongju Sarang Church were also surprised to learn that there is a church in Sydney similar to theirs. They shared that, despite the short time together, they received great comfort and encouragement from the testimonies of the shepherds and shepherds' wives who provided accommodations. Furthermore, in the reality where the younger generation is disappearing from Korean churches, they were touched to see how faith is being passed down from parents to the next generation at Sydney Crystal Church, and how the children of shepherds are also becoming shepherds themselves. Pastor Ahn shared that he was moved to tears during the Wednesday prayer meeting when he saw young students and youth praising and praying, with English and Korean worshiping together. He expressed his desire to bring youth and singles from his church to visit Sydney Crystal Church if given the opportunity.
Through this visit from Cheongju Sarang Church, we, too, received abundant grace. Through Pastor Ahn’s message and the testimonies of the Cheongju Sarang Church members, we could feel the Holy Spirit’s touch and work. Some of the house church members who attended the Wednesday prayer meeting shared that they came to understand the reason behind the dedication and service of shepherds and shepherds' wives, as well as the true purpose of house church gatherings.
Even though our churches are in different countries and cultures, seeing how we each love, serve, and form a community that is more than family in our given places—restoring the essence of the New Testament church—filled my heart with joy and gratitude.
