There is something parents say when their child has done something wrong. ‘What have you done wrong?’. But without even knowing exactly what they have done wrong, the child says to their parents, ‘Sorry. I won’t do it ever again’.
The people of Israel were the same. Through words they confessed and admitted to their wrongdoings, but none of their actions changed.
Confession can be the starting point for repentance, but if our state of mind and actions do not change, and if it does not connect to our lives, we cannot call it ‘genuine repentance’.
I hope that we do not just stop at realisation from God’s Word, but rather try our hardest to live like he tells us to.
Passage: Jeremiah 3:19-25
22 “Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding.” “Yes, we will come to you, for you are the Lord our God.
23 Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills and mountains is a deception; surely in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
