Keeping the Sabbath is one of the important marks of keeping the covenant relationship with God.
For God’s people to neglect the Sabbath was like a declaration that they would rely on their own strength instead of God. In the end, their lives were far from God and they broke the rest of the covenant with God.
Life that depends on oneself is a life without rest. Some people think if they do not worship God on Sundays and do more work, their life will succeed. They also struggle to set apart God’s portion and are chained to the materialistic things of this world.
Matter of fact, it is not enough even when you work seven days a week, 24 hours a day, if you rely on yourself as we are weak beings.
In the end, you will only be able to keep the Sabbath when you trust and have faith that God is your provider.
Passage to read: Jeremiah 17:19-27
24 But if you are careful to obey me, declares the Lord, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy by not doing any work on it, 25 then kings who sit on David’s throne will come through the gates of this city with their officials. They and their officials will come riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by the men of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited forever.
