The Lord shows Jeremiah two baskets of figs. One had good figs and the other had bad figs.
The Lord says to Jeremiah, ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians.’
This meant that when God ordered the people of Judah to surrender to the Babylonians as a punishment for their sin, they obeyed God and did so, and God promises to make them into good figs once again.
Am I a ‘good fig’? Have I been renewed into a good fig through repentance and obedience? Or have I become a more evil, disobedient bad fig with nothing but thick leaves?
God is telling us today, ‘God only looks after good figs.’
Passage: Jeremiah 24:1-10
5 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians.
6 My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them.
7 I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
