To me, the phrase ‘as much as one can afford’ means ‘to do one’s best’.
In today’s passage, God tells us that if we are poor and can’t afford to bring sacrifices, we should bring the ‘best’ we can.
Yes, God of mercy wants ‘our best’, not ‘the best’.
He doesn’t want the materialistic things we bring to Him but our hearts.
To bring ‘as much as we can afford’ does not mean to bring something we do not have or to incur debt because of it. It means to give God the ‘best’ of what we have.
It means to give Him our talent, our time and our lives.
When we give God the ‘best’ of what we have, He will happily accept it.
What will you give God today?
Passage: Leviticus 14:21-32
21 “If, however, they are poor and cannot afford these, they must take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for them, together with a tenth of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of oil,
22 and two doves or two young pigeons, such as they can afford, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
