After returning from captivity, Zechariah urges the rebuilding of the temple after seeing the collapsed city of Jerusalem. Why was building a temple important to God's people? The building of the temple is an important symbol showing that God is with the people, and it signified the restoration of God's kingdom. When the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, he prophesied that a man named 'Branch' would branch out in his place and build the temple. Now, beyond the religious acts of worship shown on the surface, God wants the seeds of faith to be planted in us, the seed of faith to be supplied with the word and with the love of the Lord, He wants us to branch out and ourselves to be His own temple and live as His children in the kingdom of God. I hope for us to rebuild the holy temple of the Lord that has collapsed in us and restore the kingdom of God.

11 Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jozadak.
12 Tell him this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the Lord.
13 It is he who will build the temple of the Lord, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’
